Associate Professor in Design and the Head of Design Lab
Associate Professor Martin Tomitsch is Head of Design at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, Program Director of the Bachelor of Design Computing, and Chair of the Design Lab, a research group that focuses on interaction design and creative technologies.
Martin holds a PhD in informatics from the Vienna University of Technology, which he received in 2008. Having attended a high school for electronics and informatics, he has studied and applied technology in design projects since 1991.
Before moving to Australia to take on a position in the University of Sydney’s Design Lab, he worked as interaction designer in large software projects at an IT start-up in Austria. At the Design Lab, his research focuses on designing technology-enhanced environments that improve the everyday life of people.
Martin is founding member of the Media Architecture Institute, state co-chair of the Australian Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group (CHISIG), visiting lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology’s Research Group for Industrial Software (INSO), and visiting professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
